How have YOU grown this year?
An exercise to review your personal development
It's almost the end of the Celtic Year, and therefore a new beginning. The circular journey we embarked upon last Samhain is almost complete. Another year older, but any wiser? As the nights draw in and the clocks go back, this is the perfect time to pause and reflect on how you are developing as a human being. In the last year what have you learnt about yourself? How have you grown through being here on the Earth School?
As the year draws to a close and the days shorten, spend a little while each evening reflecting on your development through the year. It may be helpful to have your diary to help you.
Draw a big circle to represent the year. On the inside of the circle write or draw those aspects of yourself that you are working consciously to develop - especially those which you feel to be of an inherited nature. Then on the outside of the circle, write or draw something that represents your development. For instance, you might be working to develop your intuition, so that is the word that goes inside the circle. You might have chosen to learn to read Tarot cards as a way of developing this gift. A result of your endeavour might be that you now give friends informal readings, or are learning about discernment in what you choose to reveal. Record that 'outcome' on the outside of the circle.
If this approach to personal development is new to you, Samhain is also a time when you can tune into your ancestral wisdom - asking those who have walked this land before you to help you become more aware of why you are here - living in this body - manifesting this life - journeying in the way that you do. Each evening sit quietly and ask your ancestors to help you identify aspects of yourself that it would be helpful for you to become aware of.
A word of caution - only ask if you are willing to act on the answer. This is sacred work that you are opening up to - awareness can't be put back in 'the box'.
AND, if your relationship with your ancestors turns out to be a little 'bumpy' - see if you can find a friendlier way with them.
