SOWN SEED

The soul sows a seed:

Tree Circle of meditation and seasons.

Desire seeps around the seed's perimeter

palpates the firm and the soft,

hugs it as its own.

Mind delves into dusty corners and sharp edges,

investigates past knowledge, new design.

The worker gathers trees

from friends, forests and fields;

tends them, anticipating the circle to come.

Holes excavated for the four quarters,

anchor the terrestrial axis of navigation.

Trees tentatively taste the new soil

with roots deep from the past,

trunks upright in the present,

a hospitable home for the next century.

The harvest,

a place of quiet calm amid the changing forms of nature,

balances well the effort, nourishment and work

of sown seed.
