STATUES?
Statues, pretending to be people
breathe in and out
make awkward or smooth movements
and even exchange a few words.
Structure defines the statues.
Repeatedly responding with
yesterdays yeses and too-well-known no-s,
rigid patterns fill the forms,
bound to reiterate the past.
In automation.
Until the first of May.
Pan swiftly shape shifts in all surrounds
calling maidens and mortals
to participate in the protected woods
where the unexpected can be loosed
and new life sparked.
Embers remain.
Fan the flame?
or seek the safety of statues?
