MANTLE OF BLUE

Bridget's cloak, mirror of Imbolc blue skies,

is worn by the healer, midwife and smith

as is her calling, giving poetry

reign to inspire coming intentions.

At first light ewes bleat alive their new born,

milk lactated for nourishment, fresh growth.

Bridget oversees, with seldom the need

to intervene, blesses the land's offspring.

Into her hot forge she thrusts raw metal,

molten molecules of activity,

hammered with skill into choice instruments:

Smithcraft, transformation at its finest.

Healer who walks the four corners,

earth edges touched with favour by her cloak,

she invokes gifts of water, fire, air,

aware that healing must come from within.
