LIGHT LINES

Hazy mists on Salisbury plain hover,

suspended, awaiting dismissal

before the dawn light inches over the Hele stone

casting its straight line through the giant trilithons of Cathoir Ghall

to alight on the stone of measurement,

known as the altar stone.

Measure the time of Midsummer, greater growth,

the flowering of the spring planted seed.

Midway in the sun's undeviating route

the recumbent stone passively rests,

cellularly aware of ceremonial placement

of the bodily constituents of sacrifice:

bread, chalice, censor and rose;

earth, water, fire and air,

elements avowed to function actively for spirit.

Heaven and earth in covenant. At One. Unity.

Free to approach the sacred circle,

the dwelling place of light.

Free to measure the lines of the eternal plan.

The sun's golden energy skims the crest of the Hele stone

to enter the megalithic henge

transmuting its power to three rays of light

converging on the altar stone,

the central point.

Now is the Dawn!
