WINDS OF CHANGE

Wind challenging hoods to stay on heads,
Whooshing, channelling down alleys formed by
Woods, corners of buildings, hedgerows.
Welcome, come to Samhain via Guy Fawkes night.

Winter cleverly announces its future:
When Catherine wheels, sparklers and rockets are gone,
When countless fireworks have become puffs of carbon,
Whence come the winds of change - the dark months are here.

Withdraw comforting heat of summer,
Warmth cradles only in inner spaces.
Wise crones review the year past
Wordlessly counting what to take forward,
What crudities to leave behind.
While colourful lights sky-fill Guy Fawkes night
Wandering crookedly downward, energy spent
Wind careens them away leaving mere stars to
Weave creatively with us our future path.
